What does BIAPT do?
Practitioners and teachers need a professional network which is wider than their immediate circle of colleagues. BIAPT’s growing network brings in new colleagues from related fields.
The annual conference provides a lively forum for research and debate in the broad field of Practical Theology. Members are eligible to a discounted rate as conference delegates.
Members are able to join one of the growing number of BIAPT special interest groups for academic and professional networking. Members are also welcome to join one of the BIAPT local groups which meet for research and reflection in key regional centres.
An important resource for the Association is its Directory of Members’ Interests. It was first produced in 1997 and the latest information is available to members through the website. It contains information about members, their work, their interests and, where appropriate, their publications (subject to individual members’ consents).
BIAPT is the chief sponsoring organisation of the interdisciplinary journal Practical Theology, and members receive the journal as one of the other benefits of their membership.
BIAPT members have strong links with church-sponsored institutions for ministerial training and university departments of theology in Britain and Ireland. The Association is active in encouraging postgraduate research in practical theology, and has supported the development of practice based research degrees through a professional doctorate programme offered by a consortium of English and Scottish universities.
