Public Theology (2009)

July 14, 2009 - March 12, 2020

Public Theology: Dialogue in the Public Square
14th – 16th July, 2009 at Ushaw College, Durham

Our annual conference this year will be exploring the contribution of Practical Theology to public affairs. As the conference title suggests, the dialogical method intrinsic to Practical Theology will be a major emphasis. Our keynote speakers will be unpacking different aspects and coming from a variety of perspectives. We believe that with their contributions, delegates’ questions and comments, and our regular rich mix of short papers, this will be a rewarding and challenging conference.

We extend a warm invitation to BIAPT members and to any practitioner, student, teacher or researcher who would like to consider this theme with us. The friendliness, extended especially to newcomers, is a strong feature of BIAPT conferences so we’re sure you’ll quickly feel at home amongst us especially if you’re a first-timer.

Keynote Speakers:

    • Elaine Graham & Stephen Lowe
(Professor of Social & Pastoral Theology, University of Manchester & Bishop for Urban Life)
    • Frances Ward & Wahida Shaffi
(Residentiary Canon, Bradford Cathedral & Youth Consultant to the Christian Muslim Forum)
  • Peter Robinson & Bob Langley
(Archdeacon of Lindisfarne, Diocese of Newcastle & former Archdeacon of Lindisfarne)

A conference reflection by Phil Zylla is available here.
