Lectio Visceralis: Theological Reflection and Theatre of the Oppressed

Monday 24 May – Friday 28 May, 2-5pm UK time

A week long, one credit online course offered by Union Theological Seminary (New York City). Students will be introduced to the aesthetics, pedagogy, and spirituality of Theatre of the Oppressed; they will learn how to practice kinesthetic theological reflection and social analysis in their own settings, whether in person or online. Projects include creating an interactive, embodied Zoom prayer service; running a performative Bible study session; and staging a critically conscious drama built from the voices and experience of participants themselves. We will reflect on themes of “performance,” “education,” “oppression/sin” and “liberation/salvation,” while generating a portfolio of techniques keyed to present or future ministry/teaching environments. Taught by London based BIAPT member Dr. John P. Falcone. Auditors must register, but are welcome at no charge. For further details, please contact John Falcone.
