The Bloom Review One Year On: Multi-Faith Perspectives – Wednesday 1 May

Category: General

Date: April 10, 2024

The Centre for Faith in Public Life at Wesley House and The Woolf Institute, members of the Cambridge Theological Federation, warmly invite you to their upcoming co-hosted conference, The Bloom Review One Year On: Multi-Faith Perspectives. The event aims to critically scrutinize and debate the recently published documents entitled The Bloom Review: Does government ‘do God’? An independent review into how government engages with faith.

Written by Colin Bloom, an Independent Faith Advisor, The Bloom Review appeared in April 2023 following an extensive public consultation to which 21,000 people contributed.  The document makes 22 recommendations to government on the role of faith in society, covering a range of topics from faith literacy to education to marriage to chaplaincy to extremism. While many have welcomed its call for an increased understanding of and attention to faith in the public sector, the Review has also been criticized for its descriptions of believers and its concentration more on the dangers of religion in public life than on religions’ positive contributions to society.

The conference will take place on 1 May 2024, from 09:30-18:00, at the Woolf Institute in central Cambridge.
